Blackwood is a medium to tall tree native to south-eastern Australia and Tasmania, it grows best in wetter conditions but can be seen growing in dryer sites with shallower soils.

It is often one of the pioneer species to come up after a disturbance in the landscapes that it calls home. Blackwoods have dark furrowed bark, and a broad, dense crown of deep green foliage

 It is one of Australia’s finest cabinet timbers, producing a wonderful dark coloured wood that is prized globally for furniture, veneer, and musical instruments. It is a challenging species to grow well for sawlogs due to genetic variability in growth patterns, requiring careful selection and management to achieve straight, high-quality timber.
