River She-oak is the largest of the casuarinas and is a large graceful, nitrogen-fixing tree native to the watercourses of eastern Australia.

It has a preference for wetter soils, and has dense root systems that provide outstanding erosion control in riparian areas. Historically prized for shingles and fine furniture, the timber features a pale chocolate heartwood with prominent timber rays producing an oak-like grain – which is where the “sheoak” name is derived from.

It is one of the few Australian hardwoods where the sapwood is not susceptible to the sapwood consuming Lyctus Borer beetle, removing the need for chemical treatment of sapwood.
