Spotted Gum is a tall eucalypt native to the east coast of Australia, recognised by its striking mottled bark. It can be grown in a range of conditions from dryer gravelly soils on the surfcoast of Victoria right up to the lush forests of Northern Queensland.

It is known for having a deep root system that helps during dryer times and also aids in erosion control in riparian zones. It produces a highly valuable and extremely versatile hardwood with light brown to golden colouring and is highly regarded for structural applications, flooring, decking and boat building.

Being fire resistant, it is one of the specific native timbers approved for exterior use in BAL–29 bushfire zones without needing any additional chemical treatments. Additionally it has a Class 2 in ground durability rating meaning it will last in the ground for 15 – 25 years untreated.
